Are we talking French Fries?
Right .. are we really talking French Fries? Here is the Belgian again defending her small country. French Fries, relating to France, Paris, Love and Romance, Piaf, Saint-Tropez etc do not exist. When it comes to potatoe chips, well they are Belgian. I suggest you read Asterix books and you will find out for yourself that the so called French Fries originally are from my home country. And believe me we are very proud of this ! The funny thing about our fries is that other countries do interfere with them. The Dutch are actually the ones eating more fries per capita than any other nation. A couple of years ago when there was that "misunderstanding" between politics of Mr Bush and Mr Chirac, suddenly French Fries became Liberty Fries. What else is gong to be invented? The English have their "Fish and Chips", so far so good, at least they don't call it "Fish and Commenwealth Fries". And now I will tell you why the Fries are called French Fries. The verb "to french" is not often used anylonger, but it means "to cut into lenghtwise pieces". So the potatoes are cut into long slices and then fried. As simple as that. Enjoy your meal with Belgian, French, Liberty, whatever Fries. You now know their real origin! |
